PHKCCI participated at the premiere of "Enchanting China", celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China

Our Board Member, Carmen Wu, alongside former colleague Ana Bertazzo Lemos, now residing in Hong Kong, represented PHKCCI at the event. The event was held at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, celebrating China’s commitment to ecological conservation and Hong Kong’s inspiring environmental progress.

Belt and Road Summit 2024

Carmen Wu, a Board Member of the Portugal-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHKCCI), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on behalf of PHKCCI in Hong Kong. This agreement, finalized during the Belt and Road Summit 2024, focuses on supporting the construction of the "Going Global" Comprehensive Service Center for Chinese Enterprises. The MoU reinforces the collaboration between key international partners to provide full life-cycle, one-stop services for Chinese enterprises expanding globally.

PHKCCI joined the Europe Forum 2024 held in Amsterdam

The Europe Forum 2024 brought together representatives from Hong Kong Business Associations across Europe to discuss the future of Hong Kong as a pivotal connection platform between Asia and Europe. All the Business Associations of Hong Kong present at the event are part of the Federation of Hong Kong Business Associations Worldwide (FHKBAW), a unique network of 48 Hong Kong Business Associations in 37 countries and regions with close to 11,000 individual associates. This network plays a crucial role in promoting business opportunities and connections globally.

Annual Meeting of the Portuguese Chambers of Commerce Network Worldwide (RCCPM)

Lisbon hosted the inaugural edition of the Annual Meeting of the Portuguese Chambers of Commerce Network Worldwide (RCCPM). This network is comprised of 64 Portuguese Chambers of Commerce from 46 countries and 5 continents. The event saw the attendance of notable figures, including the Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel, and the Minister of Economy, Pedro Reis, among other distinguished authorities and entities. The members of RCCPM also had the honour of visiting the Portuguese Parliament, and being received by the Prime Minister of Portugal, Luís Montenegro, at Palacete de São Bento. They were also welcomed at the Lisbon City Hall by Mayor Carlos Moedas.

Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH) & the Hong Kong International Medical & Healthcare Fair

PHKCCI attended the 4th Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH) & the 15th edition of the Hong Kong International Medical & Healthcare Fair. These are flagship events of the third International Healthcare Week, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).

The ASGH featured 15 plenary and thematic sessions, bringing together over 80 international experts to discuss critical topics, such as healthy aging, innovative technology, and medical insurance. The Hong Kong International Medical & Healthcare Fair has attracted over 12,000 buyers and more than 300 exhibitors from 60 countries and regions. It has provided a wide range of latest top-notch medical technologies and equipment, along with medical, healthcare and related services.

It was an incredible opportunity to connect with global leaders and explore the latest trends and innovations in the healthcare industry. We were especially proud to see Pedro Cunha Guimaraes, CEO of Lifeway Lda, and a Supporting Member of PHKCCI, participating in these prestigious events.

1st Douro Business Forum

Celebration of the Year of the Dragon

The Year of the Dragon was celebrated with a dinner reception at Museu do Oriente in Lisbon, Portugal.
160 friends were hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Portugal-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHKCCI).
We were honoured to have the Chinese Ambassador to Portugal, Mr. Zhao Bentang, the Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs to the European Union, Ms. Shirley Yung, the HKTDC Regional Director for Europe, Central Asia & Israel, Mr. Silas Chu, and business and community leaders joining the event.

"International Forum – Export and Internationalization"

The 3rd edition of the "International Forum – Export and Internationalization" took place at Hotel Sana Malhoa in Lisbon, with over 400 participants.
The event began with a dinner and networking session on February 19th that brought together over 250 representatives from 18 Bilateral Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Portugal, associates, and partners.
On the 20th, the "International Forum – Export and Internationalization" had an extensive and diverse agenda, which provided ample chances for networking and exploring potential international collaborations. It also served as an excellent opportunity to highlight the role of the Bilateral Chambers of Commerce in Portugal within the Portuguese business community and their significance in bringing markets closer together.

We welcome Herdade do Perdigão e Monte do Pintor as a new Supporting Member of the Portugal-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHKCCI)!

Herdade do Perdigão is located at the heart of Alto Alentejo, near the small village of Monforte.
Under the influence of the São Mamede Mountain Range microclimate, doubtless responsible, together with its soils, for the unique and differentiated terroir we can find in the property, which produces unique and differentiates wines. The wine production began in the 90’s and since then the wines produced at the estate earned recognition in the region. The grape varieties used in the reds are predominantly the typical varieties of the region such as Aragonez and Trincadeira, punctuated by no less relevant Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional and Alfrocheiro.

On a small village called Igrejinha, in the municipality of Arraiolos (where the famous carpets with the same name are produced), is where Monte do Pintor estate is located. The vineyard is located on a gentle south facing hillside with unique schist soils, resulting in a distinct terroir. The producer mainly use the traditional grape varieties, Trincadeira, Aragonez as well as Castelão, Alfrocheiro, Tinta Caiada, Alicante and Moreto are responsible for the red wines. Verdelho, Arinto and Antão Vaz were chosen for the whites. The winery at Monte do Pintor favors the most demanding requirements for the production of high-quality wines, with modern and technologically advanced equipment in order to receive and handle the grapes.

PHKCCI's attended the Chinese New Year celebrations in Porto, Portugal.
The atrium of the City Hall quickly filled up for the entire ceremony, attended by the Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, and the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Portugal, Zhao Bentang.
The event began with a Dragon Dance spectacle performed by the She-Si School, based in the city, as well as three others that participated in the kung fu demonstration.

PHKCCI's attended the Chinese New Year celebrations to welcome the Year of the Dragon in Albufeira, Algarve.
The event was organized by the Embassy of China and Albufeira City Council and began with an impressive cultural performance, including martial artists flown in from Macau, and several dance performers representing various ethnic Chinese groups. It was followed by a dinner attended by the local Chinese community, Ambassador Zhao Ben Tang and the President of PHKCCI, Bernardo Mendia.

24th Hong Kong Forum

On occasion of the 24th Hong Kong Forum, PHKCCI's President, Mr. Bernardo Mendia, and General Secretary, Mr. Carlos Torres, travelled to Hong Kong where they joined the members of the Federation of Hong Kong Business Associations Worldwide and other global business representatives. “China (Shenzhen·Bao’an) – Portugal (Lisbon) Economic & Trade and Cooperation Conference”

Congrats to the Portugal-China Chamber of Commerce & Industry - CCILC for organizing the successful Bao’an Shenzhen programme in Portugal, which took place on September 25th and 26th, 2023, in Oeiras and Lisbon.

The General Secretary of the Portugal-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHKCCI), Carlos Torres, was the designated witness of the agreement between ViniPortugal and Bao’an Investment Agency.

Bao’an is a district in Shenzhen, one of the leading cities of the Greater Bay Area (GBA). After 40 years of development, it has gradually become the place for high-end and intelligent manufacturing, innovative enterprises and globally influential talent. In the first half of 2020, there were more than 795,000 businesses registered in Bao'an, of which 50,600 were manufacturing enterprises. It was home to 3,682 industrial enterprises above designated size, ranking number 1 in the city. There were over 4,885 national high-tech enterprises in Bao'an, top ranked among all the districts and counties in the province.

The Portugal-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHKCCI) was invited to attend the Chinese Embassy in Portugal’s reception in Lisbon, to celebrate the 74th Anniversary of the People's Republic of China.

Several hundreds of guests were present at the ceremony, including the Chinese Ambassador, Zhao Bentang, mayors of various Portuguese cities, members of the Portuguese parliament, and distinguished representatives from the Portuguese business community.

It was encouraging to see the interest in continuing and fostering the strong relations that China and Portugal have built up for over 500 years.

Europe Forum 2023

Paris gave a warm welcome to the Europe Forum 2023. This Forum is the annual meeting of the Hong Kong Business Associations in Europe, where each country shares its latest updates and best practices, and where the future of Hong Kong as a connection platform between Asia and Europe is discussed.

Besides the presence of representatives of the European Hong Kong Business Associations, the Europe Forum was also attended by the Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong S.A.R., Mr. Paul Chan, the Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs to the European Union, Ms. Shirley Yung, and HKTDC Regional Director for Europe, Central Asia & Israel, Mr. Silas Chu.

Business Conference on Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development

The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (Hong Kong) has invited PHKCCI to participate in the Business Conference on Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development, held on the 13th-15th September 2023, in Macao.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area) comprises the two Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macao, and the nine municipalities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing in Guangdong Province.

The goal of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) plan is ambitious and presents both challenges and opportunities for Hong Kong.

Belt & Road Summit

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council has invited PHKCCI to participate in the Belt & Road Summit, which takes place today and tomorrow in Hong Kong.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) links economies, companies and organisations across the world in a programme designed to fast-track economic and social development, with special emphasis on underdeveloped regions looking to catch up with developed Western countries.

Hong Kong looks to serve as the buckle for the belt and key junction for the road, directing capital, talent and knowledge between the Belt and Road regions, especially between Mainland China and the rest of the world.

The President of the Board of the Portugal-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHKCCI), Bernardo Mendia, travelled to Hong Kong, where he was received by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong S.A.R., Mr Algernon Yau. During the meeting, both exchanged views on ways to further deepen economic and commercial cooperation between Portugal and Hong Kong and how to help companies from the two regions promote their brands and businesses abroad.

Bernardo also visited the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong S.A.R. and the Authority of Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone of Shenzhen.

The municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão invited the Luso-Chinese Textile Industry Cooperation Seminar participants to a debrifieng lunch meeting regarding their recent trip to China and to attend the inauguration of the Urban Art Installation "Famalicão Cidade Têxtil".

Bernardo Mendia, the President of the Portugal-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHKCCI), recently met with the Secretary General of Forum Macao, Dr. Ji Xianzheng, in Lisbon.

The Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), also known as Forum Macao, was launched in October 2003. It is a multilateral, intergovernmental co-operation mechanism aimed at promoting economic and trade exchanges between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, by using Macao as a connecting platform.

The meeting took place as part of a visit to Portugal by a Delegation from the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum Macao and a reception by the Portugal-China Chamber of Commerce & Industry - CCILC.

Congratulations to PHKCCI's Supporting Member Mercan Properties on the opening of Renaissance Porto Lapa Hotel!

This project alone is the result of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Portugal worth 56 million euros, by 160 investors, including many from Hong Kong, through the Golden Visa (GV) programme. The Renaissance Porto Lapa Hotel created 119 direct jobs and 120 indirect jobs during its construction.

FDI in Portugal through GV has sourced an average of 700 million euros per year in the past 10 years, contributing to rebuilding many Portuguese cities and activating the real estate industry and the Portuguese economy.

This is the 7th hotel opened by Mercan Properties in Portugal and the company is already rehabilitating 20 other touristic real estate projects around the country.

By occasion of the visit to HK of the Member of the Portuguese Parliament, Mr. António Maló de Abreu, and the presence of the last Portuguese Governor of Macau, General Rocha Vieira, Portugal-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHKCCI) had the honor to be invited to lunch by Club Lusitano, followed by a spectacular afternoon at the Rugby Sevens, the biggest annual world renown sports event in HK, attracting people from all over the world.

Club Lusitano is one of Hong Kong’s oldest and most celebrated social clubs, dating back over 155 years since the earliest years that Europeans settled in the former British colony. It was founded as a private members club for the local Portuguese community and to this day retains its unique Lusitanian cultural identity through its language, cuisine and membership. Membership is open to the Portuguese community resident in HK.

General Vasco Rocha Vieira at Quinta da Marmeleira's headquarters in Macau

General Vasco Rocha Vieira, the last Portuguese Governor of Macau (1991-1999), was greeted today at Quinta da Marmeleira's headquarters in Macau by Ms. Carmen Wu, Member of PHKCCI’s Board of Directors, and Mr. Wu Zhiwei and Mrs. Lao Chaopeng, representatives of PHKCCI's Corporate Gold Member, Quinta da Marmeleira. In addition to being the last Governor of Macau, the General had previously been Chief of General Staff of the Independent Territorial Command of Macau from 1973 to 1974 and Deputy Secretary for Public Works and Communications of the Government of Macau from 1974 to 1975. Before the handover he also founded the Jorge Álvares Foundation, named after the first Portuguese who, in 1513, arrived to China.

The second edition of the “International Forum – Export and Internationalization”

The second edition of the “International Forum – Export and Internationalization” took place this week at Sheraton Porto Hotel, with over 400 participants. It was inaugurated on the evening of March 14th with a Gala Dinner chaired by the Minister in the Cabinet of the Prime Minister and for Parliamentary Affairs of the Republic of Portugal, Ana Catarina Mendes, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Portugal, Zhao Bentang, and the Vice President of Porto City Council, Filipe Araújo. The Forum began in the morning of March 15th with sectorial and thematic interventions carried out by the Chambers of Commerce and by partners associated with the event. Paula Kant, head of investment promotion at InvestHK, presented the Hong Kong market outlook and opportunities in the Greater Bay Area.

IberoAmerican Networking Reception in Hong Kong

Portugal-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHKCCI) had the great pleasure to take part in the IberoAmerican Networking Reception promoted by Invest Hong Kong. Portugal was represented by the Honorary Consul of Portugal Dr. Ambrose So, and the Vice-President of Portugal-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHKCCI) Mr. Gonçalo Frey-Ramos. This was the 1st event since the announcement of the mask mandate end. Hong Kong is back to normal.

Business Mission in Portugal

The Portugal-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHKCCI), in cooperation with the Association of Chinese Companies in Portugal (ASCP) and the Portugal-China Chamber of Commerce & Industry - CCILC, organised a business mission across several cities in Portugal. It was attended by the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Portugal, Zhao Bentang, and a delegation of 15 Chinese businessmen.

The celebration of the Chinese New Year of the Rabbit - Porto, Portugal

The celebration of the Chinese New Year of the Rabbit took place last evening with a dinner reception in Porto, Portugal. It was hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels and over 160 participants joined the event in person. The reception was jointly organised by the Portugal-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHKCCI) and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

Chinese New Year’s celebration at the Noble Hall of the Porto City Council

PHKCCI's Vice-President, Mr. Óscar Alberto Madureira, and General Secretary, Mr. Carlos Torres, participated in the Chinese New Year’s celebration at the Noble Hall of the Porto City Council on January 20th.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Porto, Mr. Rui Moreira, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Portugal, Mr. Zhao Bentang, the Minister of Health, Mr. Manuel Pizarro, D. Duarte de Bragança, among other personalities.

China Innovation Summit in Portugal

This event aimed to provide a platform for like-minded professionals to connect and share their industry experience and insights, presenting the background of Hong Kong and its development as a smart city and the HK Fintech 2025 strategy.
